Use Cases Examples (or when Infinity Solutions make your life easier)

Let's take a look at a few use cases to find out how Infinity Storage Solutions fit inside them and how they can help improve your life.

The following use cases are based on real deployments of our Solutions:

  • Data Tiering (ILM) or the ability to move data on the storage devices where is more appropriate at any point in time of the data lifecycle. Why should you keep inactive data on an expensive primary storage system? And what about using an external provider for temporary data instead of buying disks?

This is why we promise you: "Your Data, Where You Want, When You Want"

  • File Services for Block Storage. This is the typical scenario when you have a bunch of block storage systems (SAN or DAS) and you would like to extend their data management capabilities. Why not turn your storage into a powerful NAS system with data efficiency and ILM capabilities?

  • Data Shuttle is a variant of Infinity Data Migrator and, as such, can be offered both as a feature (when the destination is Infinity Data Director) or as a service (to migrate and then remove data using Infinity Data Migration).

It allows you to transparently move data across different sites when the network is not able to cope with the data transfer rate required to perform the migration.

  • Distributed Environments and Gateways to Cloud. Having multiple sites and multiple data ingestion points, data often need to be kept locally for a certain amount of time (i.e. "local cache") and to be protected with a copy in a central datacenter or in an external cloud infrastructure.

Infinity Data Director can be the clients' mount point in several sites, acting as a gateway to a central datacenter or an external cloud provider.

  • Infinity Data Director "CAS Gateway for EMC Centera" . What if you have a CAS system like EMC Centera in your environment? Or you want to use one without the need to develop an API integration? Infinity Data Director is able to connect EMC Centera as a storage device and it can behave as a "CAS Gateway” for applications that need a multi-protocol access to it. Infinity acts as a simple client that performs file storage and retrieval operations to or from EMC Centera using proprietary Centera API to give transparent access via CIFS / NFS / S3 / HTTP to clients and applications.

  • Infinity Data Director Gateway for Object Storage. Today, Object Storage represents an astonishing 67% of the entire storage used worldwide. Almost all big data repositories are based on Object Storage. However, enterprise applications are not always ready to use this. API interfaces are often an inhibitor. How can we leverage them? Do you want to use one without the need to develop an API integration? Infinity Data Director is able to use Object Storage as storage device, it can provide transparent access via CIFS / NFS / S3 / HTTP to clients and applications and thus, be used as a Gateway for applications that don’t have native Object Storage capabilities and need a multi-protocol access to it.

We will keep adding new use case and real-life examples so, stay tuned!
